About The DCE Program

History

The Division of Community Education Program was founded in 1969 on the premise that students possessing potential and desire can succeed academically when provided a network of comprehensive programs and services to assist them.

As a broad-based educational access program, it was established to serve both recent high school graduates and mature adults, from the point of admissions processing to the culmination of transfer to other schools/colleges within the university

Recruiting

DCE recruiters have proven to be vital to promoting awareness of the unique benefits of the DCE Program and to identifying potential program participants through contacts in Metro Detroit and surrounding area schools, churches, agencies, and organizations. They provide hands-on information and on-site opportunity for application to Wayne State University.

Transferring out of the DCE Program

Students are eligible to transfer out of DCE after completing the Basic Composition, Mathematics competency and Oral Communication or Computer LIteracy General Education requirements. Students must maintain a 2.0 for transfer eligibility.

 Goals of the Program

  • To provide DCE students with core supportive academic services to expedite successful completion of their prescribed courses of study
  • To consistently increase the student retention rate in the DCE Program
  • To consistently increase the number of students completing the DCE Program and transferring to other schools/colleges within the university
